📍Create a referral list or directory of services.
How to Develop a Directory of Services
1. Conduct referral mapping and develop an LGBTQIA+ affirming referral network with key sectors, including:
Physical healthcare
Mental health
Housing services and shelters
Legal services
Education and learning
Employment
Interpreter services
Translation services
Friendly community-based groups
2. If you are an existing GBV responder with a directory of services, review your list to identify LGBTIQA+ friendly and inclusive service providers. This can be done through surveys, one-on-one chats, workshops, and trainings.
Practice discretion. Asking service providers upfront if they extend their services to LGBTIQIA+ people could elicit defensive and hostile reactions. A way to broach the topic would be to test the waters by offering trainings on diversity and inclusion.
3. Ensure information on the Directory of Services is stored securely. Refer to the guide on confidentiality for more information.
4. Ensure that the directory is regularly updated.
